Jerusalem, 4 December (IANS). Israel has warned of increasing attacks if the ceasefire agreement with Hezbollah is broken. Israel says it will also include targets related to the Lebanese state.
According to the report of Xinhua news agency, despite the warning, Hezbollah fired two mortars on the disputed border between Lebanon, Syria and Israel and accused Israel of repeatedly violating the ceasefire. In response, Israel carried out airstrikes on more than 20 places in Lebanon.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz, addressing military commanders on the northern border, announced that any violation of the ceasefire agreement would lead to ‘maximum response and zero tolerance’.
The Defense Minister told the troops, “If we return to war, we will act with greater force and penetrate more deeply. The most important thing is that there will be no more concessions for Lebanon.”
During a Cabinet meeting in the northern Israeli city of Nahariya, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reiterated the warning that Israel could resume full-scale fighting if the ceasefire fails.
The Prime Minister said, “We are currently in a ceasefire, but this is not the end of the war. We are strictly enforcing this ceasefire, responding to every violation. We are committed to the ceasefire, but the other side Will not tolerate any violation.”
The ceasefire, which came into effect on November 27, aims to stop deadly cross-border violence between Hezbollah and Israel.
