It is indecent for Punjab leaders to object to the construction of the assembly building: CM Nayab Singh Saini

Chandigarh, November 15 (IANS). Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Friday slammed the leaders of Punjab who were objecting to paving the way for the construction of a separate assembly building for Haryana.

He said that first of all I would like to tell Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann why unnecessary efforts are being made to create discord between the brotherhood of Haryana and Punjab. We are brothers. Our efforts should be to keep this brotherhood intact. It would be better for Mann Saheb to take steps in the interest of farmers instead of getting involved in useless matters.

He said, “The leaders of Punjab have to understand that Haryana also has the right on Chandigarh. In such a situation, if the way has been paved for us to construct a separate assembly building, then there is no justification in raising objection on it.”

He further said, “The leaders of Punjab should know that we are their younger brothers. First you people refused to give us water from SYL canal, whereas the truth is that the farmers of Punjab also want the farmer brothers of Haryana to get water. These people are doing bad politics. First you stopped SYL and now you are objecting to the construction of Assembly building, which cannot be accepted at any cost. I want to say that the leaders of Punjab should work for the common people and farmers of their place and avoid making unnecessary issues a subject of politics, because nothing special is going to be achieved from this.”

He said that it is not appropriate under any circumstances for the leaders of Punjab to raise objections regarding the construction of the Assembly building. I would like to tell Bhagwant Mann that you should come and buy the crops of the farmers. But, you are not buying the farmers’ crops. On the contrary, you are saying that we will not allow the assembly building to be built in Haryana. Why won’t you allow buildings to be built, is Chandigarh only yours? We have as much right on Chandigarh as you have.”

Let us tell you that after getting the approval from the Union Environment Ministry, the way has been paved for the construction of a separate assembly building for Haryana in Chandigarh. 12 acres of land was to be allotted to Haryana for the construction of the Assembly building. But, due to its sensitive zone, some obstruction was being created. But, now these obstacles have also ended. Since then, the way has been paved for the construction of a separate assembly building for Haryana.
