New Delhi, November 25 (IANS). Prasar Bharati, RailTel and Playbox TV on Monday launched Freedom Plan on Railwire Broadband in Delhi. Prasar Bharati Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Gaurav Dwivedi spoke exclusively to IANS regarding this.
Regarding the launch of Prasar Bharti’s first OTT platform, CEO Gaurav Dwivedi told IANS that today a large number of viewers are resorting to digital mediums instead of getting their entertainment and news through traditional mediums. Therefore, our effort in this direction is to deliver information and entertainment to them through a digital medium.
He said that mobile services are continuously expanding in rural areas. People are getting internet through mobile service. In such a situation, our platform will be immediately available to that audience. Apart from this, the work of providing broadband facility to all gram panchayats and villages through the Bharat Net program of the Government of India, which is being operated through the Department of Telecom USO Fund, is now progressing very fast.
He further said that wherever this facility has reached, people can enjoy digital services and our streaming services through rural Wi-Fi and hotspots. Additionally our setup box, Free Dish covers entire India. Through this satellite footprint, people can watch our programs from Free Dish till then.
Regarding the content coming on Prasar Bharti’s OTT platform, he said that there will be no difference between rural and urban. Our responsibility will be to provide news, information and entertainment services to every citizen of India. Urban people get better access to the Internet and other facilities, as well as other living options. But people in rural areas have less options due to accessibility issues. We are working with a holistic approach that wherever internet services expand, our platform will reach there.
