Jaipur : Jaipur Water Supply Department started a scheme to provide 24-hour water supply in some parts of the city, but now a new problem is arising in the scheme and that is wastage of water. During the trial in Bajaj Nagar and Banipark, people are using an average of 400 liters of water per person, which is very high. While the department was hopeful that people would use water judiciously, the figures show something else. Now the department is running a metering and awareness campaign to stop this wastage, so that people can use water properly.
Consumption decreased in Banipark, increased in Bajaj Nagar
Water consumption in Banipark came down to 220 liters per person per day, which indicates the expected change. But in Bajaj Nagar this figure is being recorded around 350 liters per person per day, which is more than expected. water provider Engineers of the department say that during the trial, water consumption is being monitored through meters and people are being made aware to be economical in consumption. The department says that in January, when the water bills will come as per the consumption, the situation will become clear as to how much has changed in the habits of the consumers.
Readings increasing due to leakage and over low
According to engineers, during 24-hour water supply in Bajaj Nagar and Bani Park, water is leaking from taps at many places and tanks are overflowing, due to which the water consumption calculations are increasing. Engineers are making field visits to fix these issues and are trying to control the overflow problem by closing the taps.
Engineers’ target: 175 liters per person per day
water provider Engineers of the department say that initially during the trial, 400 liters of water was supplied per person per day. Water consumption was expected to decline with the winter season, and the department aimed to bring this figure down to 175 liters per person per day. The target of consumption of 175 liters per person per day has been set in the trial area for the next two months.
