Jaipur Women lawyers instructed to make BCI a party on the issue of 33% reservation

Jaipur : Jaipur High Court has asked the Bar Association of India including BCR, High Court Bar Association Jaipur and Jodhpur, The Bar Association Jaipur to make the Bar Council of India a party for not giving 33 percent reservation to women advocates in the elections. The division bench of CJ MM Srivastava and Justice Umashankar Vyas gave this order on the PIL filed by advocate Hema Tiwari.

Order to make BCI a party on the issue of 33 percent reservation for women lawyers

The court said that even after serving notice to the High Court Bar and the Bar Association, no one has appeared on their behalf. During the hearing, BCR’s lawyer Prateek Kasliwal raised objections on the petition. BCR said that the petitioner herself wants to contest the Bar Council of Rajasthan elections. In such a situation, PIL cannot be filed based on personal interests. The Bar Council of India has the right to make rules regarding women’s reservation. BCI has not been made a party in the petition. On this, the court has ordered to make BCI a party and has kept the hearing of the case on December 10. Said in the PIL that the Women’s Reservation Act was brought under the Nari Shakti Vandan Abhiyan-2023. Gave the benefit of 33 percent reservation in Parliament. On September 26, 2024, the Supreme Court has directed in the case Aditi Chaudhary vs. Bar Council of Delhi to reserve 33 percent seats for women advocates in the Bar elections, but in BCR, the Chairman and No woman has ever been appointed to the post of Vice Chairman.
