Jaisalmer : Jaisalmer As the effect of heat remained intense in October, farmers were not able to sow Rabi crops. After spending half of November, when the weather became favorable, the electricity system is not supporting the farmers. The state government has promised to provide 6 hours of electricity to the farmers. But this promise seems to be unraveling in Jaisalmer district. In the tube well areas of Jaisalmer district, it is providing only 1 to 2 or two and a half hours of electricity to the farmers. Which is also not getting enough voltage. This has had a direct impact on the sowing of Rabi crops. This time the target is to sow Rabi crops in 4.84 lakh hectares in the district. But till now only 27.51 percent sowing has been done against the target. Due to lack of electricity, farmers are not able to sow Rabi crops. Farmers are worried that if the electricity problem continues like this then there is a possibility of Rabi season being disrupted. Many areas were waterlogged during heavy monsoon rains during the Kharif crop. The fields were also filled to the brim with rain water. Due to which the ripe Kharif crops were destroyed.
But the farmers did not give up. Farmers were hopeful that the losses would be compensated in the upcoming Rabi crops. Farmers had hopes on the cumin crop. But due to severe electricity problem, crops are not being sown. Farmers had taken loan and prepared for sowing. Many also got new tube bells carved. These days the issue of illegal connections is in full swing in Jaisalmer district. Recently, Sohanlal, Assistant Engineer of Discom Jaisalmer Rural Subdivision, was made APO on charges of scam in Super Special Agricultural Connection. After that the audit was done by a high level committee. Fatehgarh subdivision including Jaisalmer is also full of illegal connections.
