Jal Nigam, three temporary and permanent STPs of Naini and Jhunsi will do sludge treatment in Mahakumbh.

Mahakumbhnagar, 6 December (IANS). Construction work for Mahakumbh 2025 is going on in full swing. Jal Nigam and Municipal Corporation are working with full capacity to realize CM Yogi’s vision of a clean and healthy Mahakumbh. On one hand, the Jal Nigam is arranging drinking water for the devotees coming to the urban Mahakumbh, on the other hand, the organization is also responsible for the sludge disposal of the entire fair area.

In this sequence, the corporation will treat the sludge of 1,50,000 toilets in the fair area with the help of permanent and temporary treatment plants, cessful vehicles and pipelines. In the same direction, the work of Alopi Pumping Station has also been completed, so that the extra pressure of Maha Kumbh does not fall on Prayagraj city.

It is estimated that 40 crore devotees will come to Prayagraj in Mahakumbh 2025, the biggest event of Sanatan culture. As per the intention of CM Yogi for a clean and healthy Mahakumbh, efforts are being made to make the Mahakumbh Mela area completely ODF. According to this scheme, a record 1,50,000 toilets are being built in the fair area. The sludge from the toilets of the fair area will be disposed of with the help of Jal Nigam, Municipal Corporation, 3 temporary and permanent STPs of Naini, Jhunsi and Fecal Sludge Treatment Plant of Arail.

Saurabh Kumar, Executive Engineer of Jal Nigam Urban Department, said that for the disposal of sludge of Maha Kumbh, 3 temporary STPs have been built in the fair area with the help of BARC. The work of transporting sludge to these STPs will be done by 9 cessful vehicles and sewage pipelines of the department. For this, in Jal Nigam, four cessful vehicles of 4 thousand liter capacity, three of 3 thousand liter capacity and two cessful vehicles of thousand liter will do the work of regular sludge disposal in the fair area. The remaining dirty water of the fair area will reach the STP directly through the sewage pipeline.

To ensure that Prayagraj city does not face additional pressure of sludge from the devotees coming to Maha Kumbh, Jal Nigam has already completed the work of expanding the capacity of Alopi Pumping Station. Regarding this, Executive Engineer Saurabh Kumar said that the work of increasing the capacity of Alopi Pumping Station from 45 KLD to 80 KLD has been completed. After the rising work from December 10, Alopi Pumping Station will start functioning at full capacity. Working of both its old and new sumps will start.

He also said that CM Yogi will inspect the fecal sludge treatment plant located in Arail during his Prayagraj tour on December 7. This treatment plant has been treating sludge from domestic septic tanks of Naini, Maheva and nearby areas since the month of June. From here the treated sludge is sent to the co-treatment plant at Jhunsi, from there finally treated water of 10 to 20 BOD is released.
