Jal Utsav Fortnight concluded in aspirational districts

New Delhi, November 21 (IANS). A fortnight-long Jal Utsav, run by NITI Aayog in 20 aspirational districts of 20 states from November 6 to 20, concluded on Wednesday.

NITI Aayog in collaboration with the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Ministry of Jal Shakti as a partner ministry with the states had launched Jal Utsav on 6 November. Its objective was to create sensitivity about water to make it a major issue and to involve the local community in protecting water resources.

Jal Utsav also aimed to educate and motivate students by giving them information about local water resource management and drinking water quality testing.

Thousands of people were covered during the fortnight with the active participation of the state governments through the district administrations. In which students, teachers and others took the Jal Utsav oath.

They cleaned local water bodies, promoted water conservation activities, identified water conservation methods and planted saplings in the name of the mother. Students were involved in activities like visits to local water supply units, drinking water quality testing using field testing kits, essay and slogan writing and prize distribution in schools.

Significant participation of stakeholders was observed in the districts of Alluri Sitamaraju in Andhra Pradesh, Hunumangarh in Rajasthan, Chitrakoot in Uttar Pradesh and Khargone in Madhya Pradesh.

Many leaders, state government officials from various departments working in the water sector and officials of NITI Aayog participated in the program.
