Jhalawar guava orchards are flourishing, prices are rising

This time in Jhalawar : Khanpur area, there has been a strong flowering in the guava gardens. This time due to strong surge, guava prices fell flat. Farmers are suffering financial loss due to not getting the price. Due to this, he is becoming disillusioned with horticulture farming. Due to the wholesale price of guava in the market being Rs 10 to 15 per kg, it is becoming difficult for the farmers to meet their expenses. These days, there are orchards of oranges and guavas in the surrounding areas including Bharatpur, Khedi Bosar, Jagdishpura, Sojpur, but due to lack of interest, farmers are cutting the orchards and turning to other crops. Farmer Omprakash Nagar, resident of Jagdishpura, said. That 3 years ago, a garden was planted in the village by bringing saplings of Thai Pink variety of guavas from the nursery of Jhalrapatan. Last year it bloomed, but the entire garden got spoiled due to the infestation of caterpillars. This year, pesticides were sprayed in the garden four times from time to time and there was a huge bloom. But now its buyers are not being found. The shopkeepers are not ready to buy even at the price of Rs 10 per kg, hence the guavas in the garden have started rotting on the trees. The prices being charged in the market are not even covering the cost of the crop. Farmer Hemant Singh of Sojpur told that 5 years ago, a garden of hybrid guava variety Barf Khan was planted in 10 bighas, but due to not being able to cover the cost, this year the garden was uprooted with a JCB machine.

Jagdishpura resident Hiralal Dhakad and Sojpur resident Paramjit Chaudhary got the orange orchards destroyed due to lack of fruit in the last few years. Due to losses in Amla orchards and lack of demand in the market, farmers are preparing the fields by cutting the plants. Farmers are now becoming disillusioned with horticultural crops due to timely fruit failure and adverse weather conditions.
