Mumbai, 6 December (IANS). Playback singer Mohit Chauhan, known for iconic tracks like ‘Sadda Haq’, ‘Tum Se Hi’, ‘Tum Ho’, ‘Matargashti’, has said that his latest track ‘Jhumelo’ is a tribute to Garhwali and Kumaoni languages.
The first season of folk music series ‘Mati’ ended with ‘Jhumelo’. The hillbilly track blends the charm of traditional folk music with an Afro-Latin soundscape, and offers a modern, global appeal.
Talking about the track, the singer said, “‘Jhumelo’ is brilliant and enjoyable. Raghav and Arjun have done a fantastic job and it was a pleasure for Maati to work with them. Folk music deserves a modern presentation today. It brings alive its soul using the means of. I hope the listeners will enjoy it.”
This track has been composed by Raghav and Arjun, while Deepak Ramola has written its lyrics. Mohit has also appeared in the music video of this song. He has registered his presence on-screen after Diljit Dosanjh’s film ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’.
Talking about appearing in music videos, Mohit said, “I have been feeling comfortable in front of the camera since Dooba Dooba in 1998. For ‘Jhumelo’ I was just singing into the mic, like I was performing on stage, which I really like. Performing live is an incredible feeling.”
Composers and singers Raghav and Arjun expressed their gratitude and said, “We are proud to have brought this song to life by Mohit Chauhan. Jhumelo is dedicated to the Garhwali and Kumaoni languages, blending their beauty with contemporary Afro-Latin sounds.”
