Jnanpith awardee MT at the age of 91. Vasudevan Nair passes away

Thiruvananthapuram, 26 December (IANS). Malayalam literary giant and Jnanpith awardee MT Vasudevan Nair died on Wednesday at a private hospital in Kozhikode, Kerala. He was 91 years old.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan expressed deep condolences on the demise of MT. The state government has declared two days of official mourning on 26 and 27 December. While sharing a photo on social media platform X, he wrote that M.T. With the demise of Vasudevan Nair, we have lost a giant of Malayalam literature who took our language to global heights. His strong commitment to secularism and humanity has left a legacy that will inspire generations. Heartfelt condolences to his family and cultural community.

Let us tell you that he is considered one of the greatest writers of Malayalam and he was also the editor of Mathrubhumi Weekly, a famous magazine published from Kerala.

Padma Bhushan Awardee M.T. Was an eminent figure in Malayalam literature and cinema.

His contributions left an indelible mark in both fields, earning him recognition as one of the most renowned writers in the Malayalam language.

M.T. He won four National Film Awards for screenwriting and directed seven films, while writing the scripts of about 54 other films.

In 2013 he received the J.C. Award for lifetime achievement in Malayalam cinema. Awarded the Daniel Award.

In 2022 he received the Kerala Jyothi Award, the highest civilian honor given by the Government of Kerala.

MT was awarded the Jnanpith, India’s highest literary honour, in 1995 for his outstanding contribution to literature.

In October this year, MT Vasudevan Nair made headlines when gold jewelery was stolen from his house while he and his wife were out of the house.
