Jodhpur : Jodhpur Pushkarna Samaj Ratna, Marwar Ratna Guru Govind Kalla, honored with the President’s Award, died yesterday at 11 pm on Tuesday at the age of 86. Whose last rites will be performed today. Called an encyclopedia of songs, music and traditions, he was an expert in Kalla Mand Gayaki, Gavanr’s songs, Sorthe, Hirani, Virah songs. The Tourism and Culture Minister expressed grief over him by tweeting. He was one of the well-known people of Jodhpur.

Let us tell you that Kalla had done double MA, M.Ed, IGD, RD Hons. He was honored with Sahitya Ratna and Sangeet Prabhakar National Award. Along with this, the academician was honored with Tansen’s guru Baba Haridasji Dagar Gharana Award in Dhrupad singing of Indian classical music. He was a painter, sculptor, litterateur, Rajasthani language poet, lyricist and music director, art director in films, director and a well-known director of light and sound technology. Raag Vyakaranacharya Raat in Vedic Shyam Gaan along with theater artiste, cartoonist and art purodha Kalla, creator of Shatabdi’s new classical raga Atal Vijayashree, also wrote columns in Rajasthani and Hindi languages in many newspapers and magazines.

Kalla was the lyricist and music director of Sakal Phag, patron of Jagran Yuva Force and chairman of Mand Shodh Sansthan. During his lifetime, Kalla organized cultural programs on many theaters including Doordarshan. Many researchers of musical art, singing and traditions got the guidance of Guru Govind Kalla. Kalla has been honored with District Collector thrice during his government service work.
