Jodhpur : 7 years ago, the Municipal Corporation hastily installed temporary toilets in many areas in order to meet the parameters of being shown free from open defecation in the Jodhpur Sanitation Survey and gather numbers. Due to lack of maintenance, these toilets have now become junk. This is not only affecting cleanliness but other departments are also getting troubled. One such case is in front of St. Ann’s School in Saraswati Nagar, Basni. 8 such temporary toilets were kept here. For the last 3-4 years, after leakage in the main pipeline or air valve of PHED, water keeps flowing on the roads for several days, due to which the asphalt road gets broken. This leakage is in the line passing under these toilets. Even if Municipal Corporation South removes them, leakages can be found and repaired.
PHED has also written to Municipal Corporation South for this. PHED engineers said that due to temporary toilets of the corporation lying on the line, there is difficulty in finding the leakage. Even before this, leakages had occurred many times, then the department was requested to remove these temporary toilets from the main pipeline, but the Corporation South did not even consider it appropriate to hear it. Commissioner South Dr. T. Shubhamangala could not be contacted in this matter. During the cleanliness survey, about 7 years ago, to show the city free from open defecation, such pre-cost toilets were installed around the slums. To collect points, the size of these toilets was kept at 3.75×3.5×8. On top of this, facilities like 300 liter water tank, commode inside, wash basin with tap and flush were also provided. The work of its maintenance was entrusted to the company that installed the toilet, but after the toilet was installed, the said company did not clean or maintain it even once. Within six months this toilet turned into junk.
