Expert View:Temperature inversion effect is the biggest reason
The biggest reason for increase in air pollution in winter is the temperature inversion effect. The temperature of the lower layer of the atmosphere remains low and that of the upper layer remains high. The air also remains rare, due to which the particles floating in the air do not exchange between the two layers. As a result, the air at lower levels of the atmosphere becomes polluted. The lowest temperature also occurs in the morning only. Another cause of air pollution is excessive vehicles, whose smoke keeps polluting the air continuously.
