Mumbai, December 12 (IANS). The Kapoor family recently met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the national capital and invited him for the event for the film festival organized to mark the 100th birth anniversary of legendary actor Raj Kapoor.
The family had already made good preparations to meet the Prime Minister. The family had talked about what they wanted to discuss with PM Modi on their WhatsApp group.
Bollywood superstar Ranbir Kapoor told PM Modi, “Last week, on our WhatsApp family group, we decided how to address you as Prime Minister. Reema aunty used to call me every day asking if she can call you this.”
PM Modi assured him that he can talk to him as per his choice.
Raj Kapoor’s daughter Reema Jain told PM Modi, “Respected Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi”, as soon as she said this, the PM interrupted and said, “Cut”, due to which the atmosphere in the room became pleasant.
Reema further said, “At such a precious time, you have invited everyone here on the 100th birth anniversary of Raj Kapoor. We thank you. You have given so much love and respect to today’s India. Our Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated the Kapoor family. It is a great honor to welcome you, and Raj Kapoor’s 100th birthday is the golden age of the Indian film industry.
During the conversation, PM Modi was also seen talking to the Kapoor family about Raj Kapoor. He spoke about how Raj Kapoor was way ahead of his time as he established India as a ‘soft power’ among people across the world through his stories.
Sharing her experience after meeting the Prime Minister, Kareena said, “I always wanted to sit and say a few words with our Prime Minister Modi ji, and today I have got this opportunity. This experience of sitting with my grandfather on the occasion of his centenary and meeting him with our entire family is truly special. “I think the energy he has is peaceful and positive, and he’s truly a global leader.”
Actress Alia said, “His energy, his kindness and the warm welcome he showed us was amazing. He said so much about Raj Kapoor ji. Additionally, he gave great suggestions and ideas on how we can take his contributions forward and educate the world. This experience was great and a proud moment for our family.
Karisma Kapoor said, “He gave us so much love and respect, it is a very emotional experience for me. I am overwhelmed with this moment with my family. I think this is a very important and memorable day in our lives. So Modi ji, thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving us this opportunity to spend time with you and we will always be grateful for the respect and love you gave to Dada ji.
Saif Ali Khan said, “It feels great that we are talking to the head of our nation. This gives a very warm feeling. He very rightly said that the soft power of Raj Kapoor Sahab is a great pride at the international level, especially people in Eastern Europe, Russia and Central Europe know him. He was saying that we should make a documentary or a film, so that this memory can be kept alive in some way or the other and it can be further developed.
Let us tell you that Raj Kapoor’s centenary will be celebrated on 14 December 2024.
Raj Kapoor acted in and produced several films, for which he received several awards, including three National Film Awards.
