Karauli : Hindaun City. The outbreak of diphtheria disease that has been going on among children in the area for the last one and a half months is not showing any sign of stopping. Despite conducting a large-scale survey and vaccination campaign in the concerned areas, on an average 2 to 3 patients are coming to the district hospital every day, who are being referred to Jaipur after first aid in the isolation ward. A total of 29 out of 54 patients referred so far were found infected. Many of these children are currently undergoing treatment in Jaipur. According to hospital sources, during the change in weather last month, diphtheria like symptoms started appearing in children along with complaints of fever, sore throat and swelling.
Due to fear of infection, the patients were referred to Jaipur for treatment, where when the infection was confirmed in the test report, the medical department became alert and started vaccination by conducting a survey in the respective colonies of the city. When a patient suspected of infection comes from a rural area, an isolation ward has been set up in the district hospital, in which after first aid and examination, he is referred to Jaipur. According to the doctors of the ENT department of the hospital, on an average 2-3 patients suspected to be suffering from diphtheria are being found in the OPD every day. It is noteworthy that due to parents’ negligence towards vaccination, three children had previously died due to infection. In the month of October, 21 and in the month of November, 32 were sent to Jaipur for investigation and treatment.
Adults are also falling prey to diphtheria: According to doctors, diphtheria infection is spread through droplets released from the victim’s sneezing and coughing. In such a situation, a person who is deprived of vaccination and has low immunity becomes vulnerable to it. Last day, infection like symptoms were found in a 19 year old youth from Jharreda village and a 20 year old youth from Pali village. Who have been sent to Jaipur for investigation and treatment. More than 20 thousand people were vaccinated: Dr. Sonia Rawat, vaccination in-charge of the district hospital, said that on the basis of survey in the city, more than 20 thousand TDs up to 16 years of age were vaccinated in one and a half month. And DPT vaccinations have been administered. Vaccination is also being done in schools for coverage of underprivileged children.
