Jaipur : A ‘Khat-Khat gang’ is active in the city, which is stealing valuables, especially mobile phones, from cars by distracting drivers. This gang’s method is simple but works fast. The gang members knock on the doors of vehicles stopping at intersections, pretending to be an accident. As soon as the driver opens the window, another member of the gang steals the phone or other valuables kept in the car from the other window. They commit this crime so fast that the driver does not realize the theft and moves on.

A similar incident happened with Vivek Khandelwal, resident of Visvesvaraya Nagar, Gopalpura Bypass. On October 18, at 6.30 pm, his expensive phone was stolen after his car window was knocked at the Gopalpura Pulia Tonk Road intersection. In this regard, the complainant has registered a case at Bajaj Nagar police station on Tuesday. The complainant said that a person started knocking on the glass of the left hand window. When the glass was lowered, another person came to the driver’s side window. They distracted him while talking and stole the iPhone. After taking a U-turn, he started going to the police post of Bajaj Nagar police station, during which both the accused started leaving in a car. They also chased the car of the accused, but could not catch them. The car numbers of the accused have also been given to the police. In another incident at the same place, the expensive phone of Narendra Kumar Jangid, resident of Mangyawas, was also stolen. Till now the police has not been able to catch these thieves.

How to protect?

– Be alert: While stopping at intersections, do not let strangers come close to the vehicle and do not open the door or window without checking.
– Hide valuables: Do not keep valuables like mobile, laptop, purse in the car in an easily visible place.
– Keep windows and doors closed: As soon as you see any suspicious person around the vehicle, close windows and doors and immediately inform the police.
