Jaisalmer : Jaisalmer, located in the Thar Desert, is flooded with water after heavy rains. The seasonal river Kak (Kakneya) flowing near Chundhi village, about 18 km from the city, is in spate. There is a 1500-year-old Ganesh temple in this river. It is said that the idol present in this Ganesh temple was neither made by anyone nor installed by anyone. This idol of Ganpati Bappa appeared in the river automatically.
Water flows through the sanctum sanctorum
When this river is in spate during the rainy season, water flows through the sanctum sanctorum of this temple built in the river. Lord Ganesha is anointed with the water of this river flowing due to rain. It is believed that Lord Indra always rains before Ganesh Chaturthi, due to which Bappa is anointed. When water reached the temple of Lord Ganesha, people from nearby areas reached to have darshan of Ganesh ji of the river. Devotees are looking very excited to see Lord Ganesha being anointed with the rainy river. The idol of the temple drowned in the water. People enjoyed the fast flow of water in the river. This temple built in the middle of the rainy river has its own special identity among the temples across the country. The special thing is that the river passes through the middle of the temple submerging the idol. But till date, there has been no change in the shape of the idol.
Ganesh temple is 1500 years old
It is believed that if a person with true faith and devotion builds a house with the stones of the river flowing here and expresses his desire to build a house in front of God in Chundhi Ganesh Temple, then the wish of building a house is fulfilled. Devotees come here from far and wide to have darshan of God. The history of this temple is older than the establishment of Jaisalmer. The temple is more than 1500 years old. In that era, sage Chanvad did penance here for 500 years. Therefore, this place was named Chundhi. Not only this, at different times, sages and saints did penance and increased the penance of this place.
