Kota : The construction work of the proposed greenfield airport in Kota has received approval from the Union Environment Ministry. An important meeting of senior officials of Rajasthan State Administration with the Chairman and officials of Airport Authority of India (AAI) was held in hybrid mode under the chairmanship of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla in Parliament House. In the meeting, the progress of airport construction, environmental aspects and other necessary approvals were reviewed along with the deadline for completing the airport construction work by December 2027 and starting operations.
Construction work will start from May 2025
In the meeting, AAI officials told Birla that the construction work of Kota Greenfield Airport will be started from May 2025 after all necessary approvals and operation of this airport will be started by December 2027. This airport is being constructed in an area of 1005 acres, about 25 kilometers away from Kota city of Rajasthan.
The runway will be 3200 meters long and 45 meters wide.
This airport will have a 3200 meter long and 45 meter wide runway. Seven aircraft parking areas will be constructed at the new airport. This airport will provide a capacity of 20 lakh passengers per year and 1,000 passengers per hour. It is also proposed to construct a four-lane 30 meter approach road to connect the airport to NH-52. The airport is being planned to accommodate the largest aircraft currently in use on domestic flights. Will also be able to fly from here. International flights will also be able to operate in future.
10,000 new saplings will also be planted by KDA
Head of Forest Department of Rajasthan, Arijit Banerjee informed that permission for transfer of land has been received from the Environment Ministry of Government of India for the construction of Kota Greenfield Airport. The Forest Department of Rajasthan Government has also approved this project. On the initiative of Speaker Om Birla, 10,000 new trees will also be planted by KDA from the point of view of environmental protection.
Flying club will also be built with world class facilities
Flying club and flying school will be developed for pilot training along with the airport. The Defense Ministry had issued NOC for Kota airport in July 2023. Subsequently, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between the Airport Authority of India and the Government of Rajasthan for the greenfield airport project in July 2024.

DPR work will be completed this month. In the meeting, AAI told in its presentation that in the first phase, 3200 meter long airstrip, 7 parking bays, 20000 square meter terminal building, 14 check-in counters, 2 conveyor belts and 4 Transport facilities will be developed for passengers.
Instructions for speedy construction of contact road
In the meeting, discussions were held to immediately shift the lines of PGCIL, to start the work by depositing the demand note for drinking water supply, to start the work by depositing the demand note for power supply, to construct the approach road soon, to shift the 11 KV line soon and others. The time limit for all the work was fixed by resolving inter-departmental issues. Birla directed the officials of Airports Authority of India (AAI) to develop world-class facilities for passengers at Kota Airport and a provision should be made that international flights can also be started from Kota in future.
