On the day of Shri Krishna Janmashtami, the fasting person should take a pledge in front of God that he will observe the fast according to the rules and regulations to obtain the blessings of Shri Krishna, to get rid of all diseases and sorrows, to get children, etc. and to fulfill any wish that is left. It is considered beneficial to observe the fast on Shri Krishna Janmashtami in the morning after taking a bath and taking a pledge for the fulfillment of wishes and health and happiness. In the evening, according to one’s own tradition, a swing is made for the Lord and Balkrishna is swung in it. After the Aarti, curd, butter, panjiri and dry fruits mixed in it, Panchamrit are offered and their prasad is distributed among the devotees. Bathing the Lord with Panchamrit and drinking Panchamrit relieves one from the pain of the five major planets. Panchamrit made from milk, curd, ghee, honey, sugar becomes like nectar after worship, consumption of which destroys the harmful viruses present inside the body. The body’s immunity is developed. Bathing the Lord with Panchamrit at midnight on Ashtami increases the worldly and spiritual effects. At 12 o’clock in the night, the birth anniversary of the Lord should be celebrated by creating birth of the Lord in a cucumber. As far as possible, the fast should be observed with restraint and discipline. By observing a fast on Janmashtami and donating a cow, one gets virtue equivalent to observing millions of Ekadashi fasts.
