Ghaziabad, November 26 (IANS) Former Congress leader Acharya Pramod Krishnam has sharply criticized the arrest of ISKCON priest Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari in Bangladesh in Dhaka. He said on Tuesday that a conspiracy is going on in the world to destroy ‘Sanatan’.
Speaking to IANS, Pramod Krishnam said, “The atrocities being committed against Hindus in Bangladesh are against the teachings of Islam. Islam does not support burning of houses, shedding of blood of innocent people or destroying temples. Those who They are killing Hindus in the name, they are indulging in terrorism. They are robbing the honor of women and spreading terror in the community.”
Krishnam also appealed to the Indian government to take diplomatic action to protect Hindus and to hold talks with Bangladesh. Expressing confidence in the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said, “I have full confidence that as long as Narendra Modi is in power, no follower of Sanatan Dharma will be harmed anywhere in the world.”
India on Tuesday expressed ‘deep concern’ over the arrest and subsequent denial of bail to Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, spokesperson of Bangladesh Sanatan Jagran Manch and head of Pundrik Dham in Chittagong.
Das was detained by the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 4:30 pm on Monday.
Das was produced before Chittagong Sixth Metropolitan Magistrate Kazi Shariful Islam on Tuesday amid tight security in connection with a case registered on October 31, local media reported. His bail plea was rejected and he was sent to jail.
Earlier, Das was handed over to Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) by the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
Das’s arrest comes at a time when the interim government led by Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus is facing multiple allegations of atrocities on Bangladesh’s Hindu community.
The Indian government responded to the issue on Tuesday (October 26). The Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement, ‘We express deep concern over the arrest and denial of bail to Chinmay Krishna Das, who is the spokesperson of ‘Bangladesh Samit Sanatan Jagran Jot’.
“This incident follows a series of attacks on Hindus and other minorities by extremist elements in Bangladesh,” the statement said. Several cases of arson and looting of minority homes and business establishments as well as theft, vandalism, desecration of deities and temples have been reported.
The Ministry of External Affairs said it is unfortunate that the perpetrators of these incidents are still roaming free, while charges are being leveled against a religious leader who presented legitimate demands through peaceful gatherings. We also express concern over the attacks on minorities who are peacefully protesting against Das’s arrest.
“We appeal to the Bangladesh authorities to ensure the safety of Hindus and all minorities, including their right to freedom of peaceful assembly and expression,” the ministry said.
