Mumbai, December 8 (IANS). After Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) MLAs refused to take oath in the Maharashtra Assembly on Saturday, MLAs of the opposition alliance took oath today. Congress MLA from Latur Amit Deshmukh has reacted to this.
The government is calling yesterday’s boycott a publicity stunt. On this, Amit Deshmukh told IANS, “What publicity stunt is this?” People of our area have said that we have doubts about EVMs, and we want the votes to be cast through ballot papers. Now if they want this then standing with them is a part of democracy. Putting up with them is not a stunt. Yesterday we boycotted the swearing-in ceremony, and today we made our role clear. Today the oath taking ceremony took place.
On questions raised regarding the leadership of ‘India’ block, the MLA said, “There is no question on it.” Congress is the largest party in the ‘India’ block, and discussions can definitely take place in the alliance. Everyone has the right to express his opinion. Congress has also said that when the ‘India’ block meets, all these issues will be discussed and everyone will move forward with a consensus.
Regarding Maharashtra Waqf Board serving notice to 100 farmers in Latur, Amit Deshmukh said, “All this will come out soon.” Today our people are also meeting the farmers. We have contacted them yesterday and I will also talk to those farmers myself. We will ensure that there is no oppression on farmers.
Mehbooba Mufti’s daughter Iltija Mufti has given a controversial statement regarding Hindutva. Amit Deshmukh has refused to comment on this. He said that such statements keep coming, and it is not necessary to comment on every statement.
