Law and order has completely collapsed in Punjab, people are feeling unsafe: Daljit Singh Cheema

Chandigarh, November 14 (IANS). Speaking to IANS on Thursday, senior Shiromani Akali Dal leader Dr Daljit Singh Cheema expressed serious concern over the law and order situation in Punjab. He said that the existing law and order in Punjab has completely collapsed. Even traders, shopkeepers and common citizens are feeling unsafe.

This statement of Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema comes after the statement of the Governor of Punjab, in which he had raised questions on the law and order situation in the state. In fact, the Governor of Punjab had recently expressed concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in the state at an event.

He said that violence and crime are increasing in the state, which is also affecting the industries. He also said that concrete steps need to be taken to improve this situation. After this statement of the Governor, Dr. Daljit Cheema said that the law and order situation of Punjab has already become very bad and now instead of improving it, it is getting worse.

He said that the law and order system of Punjab has completely failed. Neither traders, shopkeepers nor common citizens are safe here. Even the chains of elderly women who sit at the doors of their houses are snatched away. Looking at this situation we feel that the government has completely abandoned its responsibility. If the Governor of the state is also realizing this situation, then the Chief Minister should fulfill his responsibility and remove those who are failing to fulfill their responsibilities.

He said that the Punjab government sent its report to the media, but this is not a solution. The situation will not improve merely by talking in the media. The government should take concrete steps. If the government fails to maintain law and order, it should be held accountable immediately. He also said that both the Chief Minister and the Home Minister are the same person and if the situation does not improve, then he should be removed from his responsibility.
