New Delhi, December 9 (IANS). Leaders of the ruling party and the opposition will meet Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar just before the commencement of proceedings in the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Parliament, on Tuesday. The purpose of this meeting is to end the ongoing deadlock in the House.
Rajya Sabha Chairman and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar also met Rajya Sabha Leader of the House Jagat Prakash Nadda, Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge and other senior Parliament members on Monday in his chamber in the Parliament House.
In fact, due to the fierce altercation between the two parties in the Rajya Sabha, the proceedings of the House could not proceed smoothly on Monday. The Chairman has decided to hold further discussion to end the deadlock. For this, he has invited the Leader of the House and the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha to meet on Tuesday morning.
According to the Rajya Sabha Secretariat, both the leaders have agreed to this proposal of the Chairman. Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar said that there was a meeting between the Leader of the House and the Leader of the Opposition in his chamber on Monday. The purpose of this meeting was to ensure that the House ran smoothly. Some other leaders from both parties and Rajya Sabha MPs Tiruchi Siva, Pramod Tiwari and Jairam Ramesh were also present.
According to the Chairman, during this meeting both the sides discussed openly and said that the integrity and sovereignty of the country is sacred for us. We cannot allow any force within or outside the country to defile our unity, our integrity and our sovereignty. Jagdeep Dhankhar said that the leaders of the party and the opposition have agreed to meet again in his chamber on Tuesday morning.
The Chairman also said that he would appeal to all the members of the House to carefully consider the oath taken by the MPs on the Constitution.
There was a tremendous uproar in the Rajya Sabha on Monday. The proceedings of the House were adjourned several times. JP Nadda said that his party members want to discuss a serious topic under Rule 267. Congress expressed surprise at this. Congress said that the opposition has been demanding discussion under Rule 267 in Parliament to raise its voice, but this is the first time that the ruling party is doing so.
