Liver transplant started in Jodhpur AIIMS, now preparations for heart transplant

Jodhpur : Jodhpur All India Institute of Medical Sciences (S) Jodhpur has now started the facility of liver transplant as the third organ after kidney and cornea. SK Surgical Gastroenterology department has successfully transplanted livers of 3 persons in the last 3 months. Two of the three have been discharged from the hospital. Both are healthy. A 63-year-old man, who underwent liver transplant on November 18, is admitted in the hospital. He will also be discharged soon. The first transplant was done on August 17 and the second on November 2. Now preparations for heart transplant are going on. The Department of Cardiac Surgery and Cardiothoracic has prepared many facilities for heart transplant. Probably for the first time, heart transplant will be done by calling a team from outside. After this, only the doctors of S Jodhpur will do the heart transplant.

Most of the livers are giving son

Of the 12 liver transplants so far, 7 have been received from living donors and 5 from brain-dead donors. The majority of living donor livers are sons of men who have given to their fathers.

Out of 12 liver transplants so far, 11 have been of men.

So far 12 liver transplants have taken place in S Jodhpur. Before the last three transplants, Team S from ILBS Institute of Delhi used to come to Jodhpur and perform liver transplant. Of these, 11 livers were transplanted in men and only one liver was transplanted in a female patient. Now the team of Dr. Vaibhav Varshney, Dr. Subhash Soni, Dr. B. Selvakumar, Dr. Piyush Varshney and Dr. Lokesh Aggarwal of S Jodhpur will do the liver transplant. Executive Director of SK, Dr. GD Puri has congratulated all the doctors on the opening of the new facility.S Dr. Vaibhav Kumar Varshney, Head of the Department of Surgical Gastroenterology, Jodhpur, said that 50 percent of liver transplant patients had liver damage due to excessive alcohol consumption. The remaining 50 percent had to be transplanted due to non-alcoholic fatty liver. Nowadays liver is getting damaged due to obesity.
