New Delhi, December 7 (IANS). A team of doctors in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, removed a rare gall bladder measuring more than 15 cm from the body of a 35-year-old woman. This gave the woman a new life.
Shalini Tiwari reached the hospital complaining of severe stomach pain. His ultrasound revealed gallstones. During his surgery, doctors discovered that apart from the stones, his gall bladder was also very large.
Dr. Suramya Pandey, general surgeon at Lucknow Civil Hospital, told IANS on Saturday, “During the operation, we found out that the patient has a very large gall bladder, which is more than 15 cm in size. The normal size of gall bladder is about 7-8 cm.” “A surgery called giant cholecystectomy is rare. Only 9 cases have been reported so far worldwide.”
The doctor said that the team managed the patient well and the surgery was conducted without any complications. The doctor said that the patient was discharged after five days without any problem after the operation.
Let us tell you that the gall bladder is a pear shaped organ, which is located in the upper right part of the stomach, just below the liver. It collects and stores digestive fluid made in the liver, called bile.
Giant gall bladder is a rare condition, which can be caused by cholecystitis. This may include redness and swelling of the gallbladder, gallstones, gallbladder cancer, or other diseases. It can develop in patients of any age and may resemble a stomach tumor.
People with gallbladder problems may experience sudden, severe, and sharp pain in the upper right side of the abdomen or in the middle of the abdomen just below the breastbone. They may also face other problems like back pain between the shoulder blades and pain in the right shoulder.
