Maasi river in spate in Rajasthan, rain wreaks havoc, normal life disrupted

Tonk : Rivers and streams are in spate after heavy rains in Tonk district of Rajasthan. The most affected area has been Peeplu town and subdivision area, because its connection with other towns including the district headquarters has been completely cut off. Masii River is in spate, due to which Peeplu to Bagdi road has submerged in more than 3 feet of water. Last night, two pickup trucks overturned while crossing this road, one of which was pulled out with the help of a JCB, but the other could not be pulled out due to heavy load.

179 MM rain in last 24 hours

After two pickup trucks overturned in the Maasi river, Peeplu Tehsildar Indrajit Singh Chauhan reached the spot and took stock of the situation. He said that 509 mm of rain has fallen in Tonk district this monsoon season, of which the highest rainfall of 687 mm has occurred in Malpur area. In the last 24 hours, 179 mm of rain has fallen in Niwai area, due to which the inflow of water in the rivers and ponds of the area has increased. People are appealed to go out of the house only when there is urgent work and not to cross the river risking their lives. If the villagers cooperate, any untoward incident can be avoided.

All roads are closed but school is open

Due to heavy rains in Peeplu, the Government Higher Secondary School has turned into a pond. More than 10 thousand books have been damaged due to rainwater filling the library there. Water is dripping from the roofs of many classrooms, while many rooms in the school premises are flooded. Due to heavy rains, all the routes to Peeplu have been closed. Despite these conditions, the District Collector has not declared a holiday for schools, due to which teachers and children have to reach school risking their lives.
