New Delhi, November 19 (IANS). The Madras High Court recently commented on churches across the country, saying that church properties should be governed by a statutory body similar to the Waqf Board. On this, Bharatiya Janata Party leader RP Singh has called it a welcome comment.
Speaking to IANS, he said, “It is welcome that the properties of charitable trusts and religious bodies are managed properly. It is up to the people and bodies there to decide how to regulate properties there. After that the properties should be used for the rights of the local poor people. This is a very good point.”
Let us tell you that after this comment of Madras High Court, the leaders of Council of Churches in India (NCCI) and Catholic Bishops Conference of India (CBCI), which govern about 90 percent of the churches in the country, expressed dissatisfaction over it.
After this, on the allegation against Maharashtra BJP leader Vinod Tawde of distributing Rs 5 crore in the elections, he said, “This is a complete lie. It is not a matter of a money transaction. Rs 5 crore will come in many trucks. This is not visible in any CCTV footage. It seems that the opposition people are doing all this under some plan. He is taking such steps out of desperation.”
He further said, “Yesterday a former minister alleged that he was attacked in the dark of night, and someone beat him and had a fight with him. All this is being done to create something new and divert people’s attention from the real issues. It seems that the purpose of these actions is to confuse the public. In fact, the Election Commission has also filed a case in this matter. But, this only pertains to the violation of election code of conduct and evaluation of electoral processes and not to transactions of notes or cash and votes.”
