Mumbai, November 14 (IANS). Political activities are at their peak regarding Maharashtra Assembly elections. Various claims and promises are being made by all the parties and their leaders to register victory. Everyone is talking about their plans after winning the elections. Samajwadi Party candidate from Shivaji Nagar assembly constituency Abu Azmi spoke to IANS on Thursday on several important issues.
The SP candidate expressed his views on rising drug cases, schemes for women and the green cess implemented by the Karnataka government on water bills.
He said that drug addiction has become a serious problem throughout Mumbai and Maharashtra. It is made an issue only during elections. The government is not making any concrete policy on this.
He questioned that if drug addiction can be completely controlled in countries like Singapore and Saudi Arabia then why not in India? A special committee will be formed in every police station to resolve this issue. He also appealed to the parents to pay more attention in this direction.
On women’s safety and education, he also said that the government has announced many schemes for women, such as the scheme of giving Rs 3,000 to women and making bus fare free for women. But these schemes should have been implemented before the elections.
Referring to opening a private college in Shivaji Nagar area, he said that his party has tried in this direction for the last several years and till now they have not been successful in setting up a college. Our daughters and sisters need a safe and respectful education environment, where they can study without any fear.
On the Karnataka government’s decision to impose ‘green cess’ on water bills, he said that the Karnataka government should ensure that the burden of increase in water bills does not fall on the general public. If any fee has to be increased for development, it should be implemented properly, but it should not create additional pressure on the poor.
Making a big claim about the Maharashtra Assembly election results, he said, “I think Maha Vikas Aghadi should get at least 175-180 seats in Maharashtra.”
When asked about the candidate for the post of Chief Minister, he said that people will decide the CM face, the one who will get more seats for the party and the one who will decide together will become the Chief Minister.
Regarding corruption and election promises, he said that if the government succeeds in stopping corruption, then it can fully implement the Rs 3,000 scheme for women. If corruption and wasteful expenditure are stopped, then definitely money will be saved for government schemes and then we can implement these schemes for women and other sections of the society.
