Hanoi, December 3 (IANS). Ho Chi Minh City, the southern center of Vietnam, has recently seen a rise in measles cases. Children are also being affected by this.
According to Xinhua news agency, the city’s health department issued a statement saying, 319 new cases of measles infection were reported in the city last week. Which is 58.1 percent more than the average cases of the last four weeks.
“The number of new cases has increased among children aged 11 to 14 years and newborns aged six to nine months,” the report said. Since the beginning of this year, 2,438 new cases of measles infection have been reported in the city. Four people died in these.
Vietnam’s Ministry of Health launched a campaign to make measles vaccines available to children across the country in August this year. More than 16,900 people were vaccinated as of September 3, according to data as of September 5. This included 115 high-risk children.
A total of 644 cases have been reported from January 1 to September 1. The city had reported only one case of measles between 2021 and 2023. The areas with the highest incidence of infection include Binh Tan, Binh Chanh and Hoc Mon.
