Metro expanded one and a half times under Kejriwal government: Atishi

New Delhi, November 19 (IANS). Delhi Chief Minister Atishi has talked about one and a half times development of Metro in the national capital in ten years. He said that the expansion of infrastructure is going on war footing in Delhi. Be it roads or flyovers, development works are progressing rapidly. The expansion of the fourth phase of the metro is also progressing rapidly.

He said that he inspected the state-of-the-art driverless train at Mukundpur depot on Tuesday. According to Atishi, only 193 kilometers of metro lines were constructed in Delhi from 1998 to 2014. But, under the leadership of Kejriwal, one and a half times expansion has been completed in the last 10 years. There has been a record expansion of Metro during the tenure of Delhi’s “AAP” government. Till 2014, only 193 kilometers of metro line was built. 200 kilometer metro line is to be built from 2014 to 2024.

He told that till 2014 there were only 143 stations in Delhi Metro, today there are 288 stations in Delhi Metro. Delhi has got a world class transport system under the direction of Arvind Kejriwal and the metro will continue to expand in the future.

On Tuesday itself, Chief Minister Atishi inspected the new metro train. He also called it a proud moment for Delhi. The first train with six coaches for the Phase 4 expansion of Delhi Metro has also reached Mukundpur depot.

Sharing a picture of the metro on social media, he wrote, “Today, I had the opportunity to inspect this state-of-the-art driverless train, which will soon join the Magenta Line, India’s only metro system with driverless technology. This milestone confirms the status of Delhi Metro as it is making rapid progress across Delhi, under the visionary leadership of Delhi Metro, another milestone in the city’s journey towards a smarter and more comprehensive metro network. It’s a step.”
