‘Miscreants burn another ISKCON temple in Bangladesh’

Kolkata, 7 December (IANS). ISKCON Kolkata vice-president and spokesperson Radharaman Das on Saturday claimed that another temple of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) in Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka has been set on fire by miscreants.

“Another ISKCON Namhatta center in Bangladesh has been burnt down. The deities and all the objects inside the temple were completely burnt. The center is located in Dhaka,” Das said in a post on Twitter.

He said the attack took place around 2 a.m. and 3 a.m. on Saturday.

“The miscreants set fire to the Radha Krishna temple and Mahabhagya Lakshmi Narayan temple under the Hare Krishna Namhatta Sangh located at Dhaur village under the jurisdiction of Turag police station in Dhaka district,” Das said.

He also said that the roof of the rear part of the temple was lifted and set on fire. “Petrol or octane was used to set the fire,” Das said.

Condemning the attack, West Bengal BJP state president and Union Minister of State Sukant Majumdar said it was an unforgivable act of hatred against a place of worship.

Majumdar said, “Immediate action must be taken to bring the culprits to justice and ensure the safety of religious minorities.”

Earlier this month, Das had accused international peace organizations of being indifferent to attacks and atrocities on minority Hindus in Bangladesh.

Recently, while speaking in the West Bengal Assembly, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had also demanded Bangladesh intervention from the United Nations. He also put forward a proposal to the Central Government to consider a peacekeeping force in Bangladesh after the United Nations intervention.

However, Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Suvendu Adhikari has described his proposals as another example of their contradictions.

He said, “The Chief Minister moved a resolution in the Assembly to send peacekeeping force to Bangladesh. When jihadis were disrupting Hindu religious festivals in various areas of the state, what were their police doing in the state? Mohammad Yunus in Bangladesh And there is only one Mamata Banerjee in West Bengal.”
