New Delhi, December 9 (IANS). Senior Aam Aadmi Party leader Sushil Kumar Gupta said on Monday that the 28 percent GST imposed on the textile industry is extremely harmful and a cause of destruction. He claimed that this step of the Center is an attempt to drive Indian businessmen out of the country, which can prove dangerous for the economic condition of the country.
Sushil Kumar Gupta alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government is bent on destroying the textile industry. The government wants to drive away good businessmen from the country. By increasing the tax burden on the common man, the government is further increasing the problems of the poor. As long as there was VAT and sales tax, there was no tax on clothes, but in GST, the government imposed five percent tax, during Covid it increased it to 12 percent and now it has reached 28 percent.
He alleged that this decision is dangerous for Indian businessmen and the government wants to increase imports from China and Bangladesh into India and cause loss to Indian industry. Today every businessman in India is protesting against this decision, and I appeal to the Central Government to withdraw this decision and save the textile industry.
On the release of the second list of candidates for the Delhi Assembly elections by the Aam Aadmi Party, Sushil Kumar Gupta congratulated all those who have got tickets. Praising the discipline and organizational strength of the party, he said that those who did not get tickets will be given more responsibilities in the party. Gupta also said that the party will move forward and every member will get an important role in the direction of the organization.
On changing the seat of Manish Sisodia, he said that Aam Aadmi Party does not run at the behest of BJP. Manish Sisodia had already decided to contest elections from Jangpura and this decision has been given full respect within the party. He said that no decision of AAP is taken under the pressure of BJP and the party works on its internal decisions only.
Sushil Kumar Gupta also expressed his concern over the farmers’ movement and urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to meet the farmers. He said that the promise made by the Central Government that it would enact a law to guarantee MSP was not fulfilled. 750 farmers across the country gave their martyrdom, but the Prime Minister forgot that promise. His behavior is completely insensitive. I request the Prime Minister to meet the farmers and understand their pain and suffering and take concrete steps on this issue.
