Bikaner : Bikaner Now there is no space available for disposal of bio-medical waste in all types of medical institutions in Bikaner district. In such a situation, at present all the bio-medical waste of the district is being disposed in Nagaur. For this, the concerned company is not only facing time and financial loss. There is also delay in disposal of hospital waste. About eight months ago, bio-medical waste was being disposed of at the center located in Gagagat area, but now it has stopped functioning. For this reason, the bio-medical waste of the district is being sent to Nagaur for disposal. The reason for this is coming to light that the plant here has been closed. The reason given was that due to the age of the plant, there is a risk of collapse. Also, there is a possibility of machines getting damaged. In such a situation, the company which has been given this work has also started disposing of it in Nagaur.
Waste from 290 medical institutions in the district
Bio medical waste is collected from about 290 medical institutions in the district. This includes all private hospitals, laboratories, dispensaries and other health centers including PBM Hospital, District Hospital, Gangashahar Hospital. In this, plastic boxes of different colors are kept in the wards of PBM Hospital. In the morning, these coaches are emptied in the train and taken to Nagaur.
700 kg medical waste per day
About 700 kg bio-medical waste is collected every day in all the medical institutions of the district. Most of these happen in PBM hospitals. PBM hospital alone has 350 to 375 kg of medical waste. Also, most of the payments are being made by the PBM administration. About seven lakh rupees per month are paid to various hospitals and labs for disposal of bio-medical waste. Out of this, Rs 3 lakh 10 thousand is paid per month from PBM Hospital. Payment is made on per bed basis in PBM hospitals.
Three carts are loaded per day
Manish Rajpurohit, representative of E-Tech Projects Bikaner, said that every day three cartloads of bio-medical waste are sent from the district to Nagaur. This has led to additional expenditure of about three lakh rupees. A letter has been given to the Municipal Corporation Commissioner for allotment of land for the plant. If land is available then disposal can be done by setting up a plant here. At present the plant has been closed since April.
Have sought instructions from the government to increase the rates
At present the bio-medical waste of the hospital is being disposed of in Nagaur. For this, the concerned company has given a letter to increase the rate. On this basis, guidance has been sought from the government regarding increasing the rate considering the kilometres. At present the rate was fixed in the MOU. Payment is being made accordingly. A team has also been formed in the hospital under the leadership of the Medical Officer for disposal of bio-medical waste.
