Nagaur : A 19 year old student has been found dead in the hostel of IIT Roorkee. Police have said that they suspect it to be a case of suicide. The student is a resident of Nagaur district of Rajasthan. Police say that the body of the student was found hanging from the ceiling fan in the room of Jawahar Bhawan, a hostel of IIT.
The student is a student of BS-MS (Maths and Computing) course in the institute and was in his fifth semester.
According to the police, preliminary investigation revealed that the student was allegedly upset over scoring low marks in the semester examinations. Police said the student’s friends and classmates said he seemed depressed and had gradually stopped interacting with others.
Some friends and classmates of the deceased student said that he was last seen roaming in the hostel at 2 am on Wednesday. Police said the body has been sent for post-mortem and a detailed investigation is underway. IIT Roorkee said in a statement that the entire IIT Roorkee community is deeply saddened by this heartbreaking incident and the institute is fully cooperating with the police authorities investigating.
