New Delhi, November 28 (IANS). President Draupadi Murmu on Thursday said that in the rapidly changing geopolitical circumstances, we need to be fully prepared to deal with any situation. We not only have to safeguard our national interests but also have to be prepared for new national security challenges like cyber warfare and terrorism.
He said these things while addressing Army officers undergoing training at the Defense Services Staff College (DSSC) in Wellington, Tamil Nadu.
The President expressed happiness over the fact that women officers are now commanding various units of the three armies. He said that the growing strength and role of women in all fields is encouraging and inspiring for everyone, especially young women.
He expressed hope that more and more women will join the armed forces, where they can scale new heights in new fields by showcasing their extraordinary capabilities.
The President said that the country is moving forward and the world is acknowledging India’s development in various fields including defence. India is moving towards indigenization and self-reliance to keep the armed forces ready to face future challenges. He said that the country is being developed as a major defense manufacturing hub. We are moving towards becoming a reliable defense partner and a major defense exporter.
He expressed confidence that this course will prepare the student officers to deal with complex situations. The President appreciated the unique role of the Institute in developing future senior officers of the Armed Forces.
The President interacted with all the student officers attending the course at DSSC. The President also paid floral tributes at the war memorial here and interacted with ex-servicemen and veterans. The President honored the martyrs for their supreme sacrifice to their loved ones in the service of the nation.
Established in the year 1948, DSSC is a premier institute for combined training of Defense Forces officers. Its objective is to train and hone the skills of selected middle-level officers of the armed forces of India and friendly countries. Since its inception, the college has trained more than two thousand international officers and 24 thousand Indian officers have accessed its portal.
