The Supreme Court gave this order on a public interest petition, in which a request has been made to develop the infrastructure in Gram Nyayalayas, reduce the number of pending cases, speed up the judicial process and provide cheap and accessible justice to the common man. Additional Advocate General Shivmangal Sharma, on behalf of the Rajasthan government, told the court that there are 45 Gram Nyayalayas in the state. The High Court has suggested opening 19 Gram Nyayalayas in other districts as well, but the number of pending cases in these districts is currently low. Opening new courts will put a huge financial burden on the state.
