Jaipur : Bansi Paharpur of Rajasthan is famous all over the world for white stone. Stone has been taken from here for the construction of the grand Ram temple in Ayodhya. But, while doing mining work here, the lease holders are not taking necessary measures for environmental protection. Due to this, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has imposed a fine of about Rs 4.25 crore on 27 leases.
Fine based on the report presented in the Supreme Court
Local resident Yad Ram Singh said that both legal and illegal mining work is done by lease holders in the Bansi Pahadpur area. During this, necessary measures are not taken to protect the environment, due to which air pollution is high here and people here are suffering from Silicosis disease. About 9 months ago, a letter was written to the central and state government to stop environmental pollution, but when no action was taken, the Supreme Court had to be approached. In such a situation, now a four-member team of NGT reached Bansi Pahadpur and investigated the pollution and presented the final report to the Supreme Court. On the basis of this report, a fine of about Rs 4.25 crore was imposed.
475 patients of silicosis in Bansi Paharpur
There are a total of 41 leases in the Banshi Paharpur area, out of which 37 have permission for mining. Out of these, 27 have been issued permits. In most of the leases, there is no sprinkling of water without keeping in mind the safety of the environment, no installation of air quality exploration machines, no marking of forest area as well as no mining demarcation pillars etc. Let us tell you that people living in the mining area constantly inhale silica-containing dust. The disease caused in the lungs due to this dust is called silicosis. In this, the patient’s lungs get damaged and he starts having shortness of breath. Due to this, the functioning ability of the lungs becomes weak. There is no exact treatment for this disease. There are about 475 silicosis patients in Banshi Paharpur.
