NIA raids in Mizoram in cross border arms smuggling case, three arrested

New Delhi, December 7 (IANS). The National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested three people during raids in Mizoram on Friday in connection with cross-border smuggling of arms and ammunition.

The NIA said on Saturday that the arrest of accused Lalrinchunga, Vanlaldelowa and Lalmuanpuiya followed extensive searches at six locations in Mizoram. All three were found to be related to the accused and suspects already arrested in the case registered last year. They were actively involved in the smuggling network of explosives, arms and ammunition.

A gunhouse was also among the places raided in Mammit, Serchhip and Aizawl districts. A large cache of arms, ammunition, explosives, weapon manufacturing equipment and tools, digital devices and other incriminating items were seized during the searches conducted as part of the ongoing investigation by the NIA. The agency had registered a case under relevant sections of the IPC, UAPA, Explosive Substances Act 1908 and Arms Act on December 26, 2023, in New Delhi.

The NIA had started investigating the case based on inputs that some Mizoram-based entities were involved in illegal business and were running a syndicate involved in smuggling of arms, ammunition, explosives etc. in the north-eastern region of the country. Earlier in the case, charge sheets were filed against accused Lalangaihavma in July and Solomona alias Haminga alias Lalmithanga in November.

The agency is investigating to unearth the conspiracy behind smuggling of arms and explosives into Mizoram and other north-eastern states.
