No-confidence motion against Vice President is a serious matter, opposition is being insulted: Vivek Tankha

New Delhi, December 11 (IANS). Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday targeted Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, calling him the biggest spokesperson of the government. Regarding this, a round of statements has started between the ruling party and the opposition.

On the opposition’s no-confidence motion against Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar, Congress Rajya Sabha MP Vivek Tankha said that this is a very serious matter and I do not consider it a small matter. The post of Vice President is very respected in our country. I believe that there should be no feeling of neglect towards the opposition in Parliament. The functioning of the House can run smoothly only when the opposition gets due respect. The opposition believes that they are not getting respect during the ten years of this government’s tenure.

On Allahabad High Court Judge Shekhar Kumar Yadav attending VHP program and supporting NRC, Vivek Tankha said that first of all the Supreme Court has taken this matter seriously and has sought a report from the High Court. Parliament also has the power of impeachment in this matter. I think the judge has crossed the Lakshman Rekha. There is resentment among many Parliament members regarding this. We are a people bound by the limits of the Constitution. In such a situation, I believe that we should follow the rules of the Constitution. Respect for the Constitution should start with us.

On Mallikarjun Kharge’s statement, BJP MP Ravi Kishan said that we understand his pain very well. He is suffering from the pain of defeat in electoral states including Haryana. This is the sorrow of defeat because we won in Maharashtra. The public knows what these people are doing where they are in power. The people of the country have rejected such people and in the coming 20 to 25 years, the Congress Party is going to be away from power. This is nothing but disappointment and frustration of defeat.
