Seoul, November 15 (IANS). North Korean leader Kim Jong-un monitored the performance test of a suicide attack drone. He stressed the need for mass production of such drones soon. This information was given by North Korea’s government media on Friday.
Yonhap news agency quoted the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) as saying that Kim witnessed the tests of several types of suicide attack drones on Thursday. These drones were made by an institute associated with the Unmanned Aerial Technology Complex.
KCNA said, ‘The purpose of the suicide attack drone, used in various striking ranges, is to conduct precision strikes on any enemy targets on land and sea.’
Kim confirmed that his country has full potential and capability to produce and use various types of drones. The possibility of adding and implementing new strategic methods will be explored as per the needs of modern warfare.
Kim talked about the need for a serial production system as soon as possible and stressed the need to start full and large-scale production of suicide drones.
North Korea said it successfully test-fired the new Hwasong-19 intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) on October 31. North Korea conducted the missile test just a few days before the US presidential elections (November 5).
The South Korean military said it detected a missile fired at a high angle from the Pyongyang area at around 7:10 am on October 31. It flew for about 1,000 kilometers before falling into the Eastern Sea.
The South Korean military assessed the missile as a new solid-fuel ICBM, according to Yonhap news agency.
