Famous all over the world for nature, temples, historical sites, forts and cultural heritage, Banswara is also known as the Cherrapunji of Rajasthan. Due to the immense grace of nature on this city, you will get to see mesmerizing views of rivers, streams, waterfalls and beautiful mountains and valleys at every step. This major district of Rajasthan borders Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh from the southern part. This place got its name Banswara from the bamboo trees which used to be in large numbers here. According to historians, the history of Banswara started around 490 BC, when King Ajatashatru of Magadha wanted to make his capital more strategically secure from the hilly area. Apart from this, the present Banswara was founded by Bhil King Vahia Charpota, who was also known as Raja Bansia Bhil. And it is said that this city is named Banswara after him. In 1530, this area was established as Banswara Rajwada, whose capital used to be Banswara. Before joining Rajasthan after independence i.e. in 1948, it used to be a part of Dungarpur state. On the other hand, according to a mythological story, it is also believed that Banswara was founded by Raja Putraka. According to some records and government papers, Banswara was founded 510 years ago on 14 January 1515 on the day of Makar Sankranti by Raja Bansia Bhil.
Banswara district is located in the southern part of Rajasthan at an altitude of 302 meters above sea level. The area of this district is 5037 square kilometers which has now been made a division. The area around Banswara is flat and fertile compared to other areas, due to which maize, wheat and gram are the main crops in this area. Iron ore, lead, zinc, silver, manganese, rock phosphate, limestone, marble, graphite, soapstone are mainly found in the mineral wealth of Banswara.

Apart from the Jain temple, there is also a Shiva temple, Dakshinmukhi Hanuman temple and Peer Dargah located on the hill.
Ramkund: Ramkund is one of the most sacred places of Banswara which is located at a distance of 3 km from Talwara. This place is also known as Phaati Khan because it is located in a deep cave under the hill. Some mythological stories describe the visit of Lord Rama here during his exile, due to which this place has special recognition. Raj Mandir: Raj Mandir is a wonderful example of old Rajput architectural style, also known as City Palace. Situated on a hill, this temple was built during the 16th century. The entire city is visible from near this temple. This palace is very special for architecture lovers.
Talwara Temple: Talwara Temple is an ancient temple which is a major center of faith. Siddhi Vinayak located here is a major temple which is also known as Amaliya Ganesh Temple. Along with this temple, Surya Temple, Lakshmi Narayan Temple, Jain Temple of Sambharnath, Maha Lakshmi Temple and Dwarkadhish Temple are the main temples located here.
Tripura Sundari Temple: Tripura Sundari Temple is a major Shakti Peeth dedicated to Goddess Tripura Sundari, located at a distance of 19 km on the Banswara to Dungarpur road. The goddess of this temple is also known as Tartai Mata. Tripura Sundari Temple has a beautiful black stone idol with 18 arms, which is considered a form of ‘Shakti Peethas’. This temple of Maa Tripura Sundari attracts a large number of tourists from the country and abroad. During Chaitra and Ashwin Navratri, a large number of tourists come here and ask for wishes from the mother.
Madareshwar Temple: Madareshwar Mahadev Temple located towards the north-east of Banswara city is a famous temple, which is visited by a large number of tourists. The natural form of this cave temple located inside the hill attracts tourists a lot.
Kalpvriksha: Kalpvriksha is a magnificent tree situated on Ratlam road which is considered to be one of the fourteen gems produced during Samudra Manthan. Like Peepal and Banyan tree, this huge tree fulfills the wishes of people. This is a rare tree which has its own religious significance. Let us tell you that here Kalpvriksha is situated in pairs i.e. male-female. Which are known as Raja-Rani. Out of these two, the trunk of the male is thin and the trunk of the queen i.e. female is thick.
Sawai Mata Temple: Sawai Mata Temple is located at a distance of 3 km from Banswara where 400 stairs take you to Sawai Mata Temple. Along with this, the famous Hanuman temple Bhandaria Temple is also located at the foot of the hill. The environment here, full of natural beauty, attracts tourists.
Mangarh Dham: Mangarh Dham is also known as the Jallianwala Bagh of Rajasthan. Located at a distance of 85 km from Banswara, this place is said to have been the site where, on 17 November 1913, the British opened fire on 1500 patriotic tribals demanding independence on the Mangarh hill under the leadership of Govind Guru and killed them.
Chhinch Temple: Chhinch is a famous temple of Lord Brahma built during the 12th century in which there is a statue of Brahma Ji equal to the height of a man.
