Kolkata, 24 November (IANS). R.G., located in Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal. Civic volunteer Sanjay Roy, the ‘only main accused’ arrested in the case of rape and murder of a junior doctor at Kar Medical College and Hospital, will have only virtual appearance in the court from Monday.
The process of hearing the case on fast-track and daily basis started on November 11. Till now Roy was produced physically in the special court.
Sources aware of the case said that all arrangements have been made to produce Roy before the special court in virtual mode from the Presidency Central Correctional Home in South Kolkata from Monday during the trial process.
It is noteworthy that Roy’s physical presence in the special court on the first day of the trial was surrounded by controversy. While being taken out of the court after the hearing, Roy had given an explosive statement saying that he had been implicated in a conspiracy.
While talking to media persons, Roy had claimed that former Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Kumar Goyal had hatched a conspiracy against him.
From the second day onwards, complete arrangements were made so that Roy did not get a chance to talk to media persons while being brought to the court premises. He was brought to and from the court in a special vehicle, preventing him from interacting with media persons waiting outside the courtroom.
Instead of the usual jail van with a mesh border, he was brought to the court complex in a special Kolkata Police vehicle, which has closed windows.
