New Delhi, November 16 (IANS). The news of a heart-wrenching incident is coming from Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh. The death of 10 newborns has been confirmed due to a fire in the NICU of Maharani Lakshmibai Medical College, Jhansi. Whereas, around 47 newborns have been rescued and saved.
This accident happened late on Friday night in this Pediatric Ward (SNCU) of Jhansi. Many fire brigade vehicles are at the spot. It is being told that now the fire in the hospital has been brought under control.
As soon as CM Yogi Adityanath got information about this incident, he posted on social media platform District administration and concerned officials have been instructed to conduct relief and rescue operations on war footing. It is a prayer to Lord Shri Ram to grant salvation to the departed souls and speedy recovery to the injured.
As soon as information about the incident was received, on the instructions of CM Yogi Adityanath, Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak and Principal Secretary of the Health Department left for the incident site.
Brajesh Pathak wrote in Instructions have been given to conduct relief and rescue operations on a war footing. I myself am reaching the accident site. I pray to Lord Shri Ram to provide peace to the injured and speedy recovery.
Regarding this incident, Jhansi District Officer Avinash Kumar said that a fire broke out in the inner unit of the NICU (infant ward) of the college between 10.30 and 10.45 on Friday night. The inside unit contained more seriously ill children, while the outside unit contained less seriously ill children.
He said that according to preliminary information, 10 children have died. The employees present in the ward at that time say that the fire broke out due to short circuit. The District Magistrate said that all the children from the outside unit have been saved. Some children from the inner unit have also been rescued.
Jhansi Division Commissioner Bimal Kumar Dubey said that at the time of the incident, 54-55 children were admitted in the ward. The injured children are undergoing treatment in the hospital.
Jhansi Division DIG Kalanidhi Naithani said that the fire has been brought under control.
Six fire brigade vehicles reached the spot. Police team is present. The cause of the fire has not been known.
As soon as Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath received information about the incident, he instructed the district administration officials to immediately take the injured to the hospital and provide them proper treatment. He has formed an investigation team under the leadership of the Commissioner and DIG and has sought the report within 12 hours.
