Olympic badminton champion Zheng will retire from international competition

Beijing (China), 30 November (IANS). Olympic mixed doubles badminton gold medalist Zheng Siwei of China announced on Friday that he will retire from international competition and that next month’s BWF World Tour Finals in Hangzhou will be his “final tournament”.

“Many people expect me to play at least until the Los Angeles Olympics or even longer,” the 27-year-old wrote on Chinese social media platform Weibo. “Looking at our competitiveness, we just won Olympic gold and As for why I suddenly stopped playing, my answer is, it’s my life plan.”

Zheng said returning to his family was one of the important reasons for his retirement from international competition, Xinhua reported.

“My goal in life is to focus on both family and career. Everyone knows that I got married relatively early, and now I have had my second child, so I want to return to the family.”

After finishing runner-up at the Tokyo Olympics three years ago, Zheng and her partner Huang Yaqiong won gold in the mixed doubles at the Paris Olympics earlier this year, finishing the tournament with a 6-0 record without losing a single game in the process. Concluded.

Zheng wrote, “During this time, we continuously made breakthroughs and broke records. We faced challenges and doubts, but we never stopped, and finally we achieved the Grand Slam.”

Zheng said she chose the BWF World Tour Finals as her farewell event because the host city, Hangzhou, was the city where her professional career began.

The season-ending BWF World Tour tournament will be held from 11 to 15 December.
