Lahore, November 22 (IANS). Former Pakistan captain Azhar Ali has been appointed as the head of youth development of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after a recruitment process.
“This role will be an extension of Azhar’s existing responsibilities, as he also serves as a member of the men’s national selection committee,” the PCB said in a statement on Friday.
Azhar, a prominent figure in Pakistan cricket, began his career in the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup in 2002 before progressing to the senior national team. Between 2010 and 2022, he played 97 Tests and 53 ODIs, captaining Pakistan in nine Tests and 31 ODIs. He was also a key member of Pakistan’s historic ICC Champions Trophy winning team in 2017.
As Head of Youth Development, Azhar has been tasked with developing and implementing comprehensive youth cricket strategies, establishing strong grassroots cricket structures and talent pathways, strengthening age-group programs in collaboration with regional cricket associations, and developing the PCB’s Pathways The program is tasked with shaping the future of Pakistan cricket by organizing seminars and clinics to educate budding cricketers and create awareness about off-field development imperatives for aspiring players.
