New Delhi, November 16 (IANS). Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed condolence over the death of newborn babies due to fire in the NICU of the Medical College of Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh and has announced to give ex-gratia to the victim’s family from the ‘Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund’.
A tweet regarding the incident was made from the official ‘X’ handle of the Prime Minister’s Office. The post read, ‘Heartbreaking! The incident of fire in the Medical College of Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh is heart-wrenching. They have lost their innocent children in this, my deepest condolences to them. We pray to God to give them the strength to bear this immense sorrow. Under the supervision of the state government, the local administration is making every possible effort for relief and rescue.
Apart from this, PMO has announced in another post to give ex-gratia amount to the families of the victims of the incident. He wrote on ‘X’, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund to the families of each deceased in the fire incident at Jhansi Medical College in Uttar Pradesh. Rs 50,000 to the injured. Will be given.”
Let us tell you that 10 newborn babies died in a fire in the NICU ward of ‘Maharani Lakshmibai Medical College’ in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh on Friday. At the same time, about 47 newborn babies were saved. After this incident, many senior leaders including President Draupadi Murmu, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh expressed grief.
President Draupadi Murmu also described the Jhansi incident as heart-wrenching and expressed condolences to the bereaved parents and family members on the social media platform ‘X’ and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured babies.
Regarding the accident, Chief Medical Superintendent Sachin Mahor said that 54 children were admitted in the NICU ward. Suddenly a fire broke out inside the oxygen concentrator. Efforts were made to extinguish the fire but due to the room being highly oxygenated the fire spread rapidly. Many children were saved. 10 children died. The injured children are undergoing treatment.
