The seventh edition of Smart India Hackathon (SIH) will commence simultaneously on 11 December 2024 at 51 nodal centers across the country. 48 teams comprising 339 participants (230 boys and 109 girls) from 15 states in Gujarat will participate in the Smart India Hackathon (SIH) in Ahmedabad.
The software version will run non-stop for 36 hours while the hardware version will continue from 11 to 15 December 2024. Like previous editions, student teams will work on problems given by ministries or departments or industries or present their views on any one of the 17 themes related to areas of national importance. These sectors are healthcare, supply chain and logistics, smart technology, heritage and culture, sustainability, education and skill development, water, agriculture and food, emerging technology and disaster management.
This year more than 250 problems have been submitted by 54 ministries, departments, state governments, public undertakings and industries. Internal hackathons at the institute level have witnessed a 150 per cent growth, from 900 in SIH 2023 to around 2,247 in 2024, making it the largest edition ever.
More than 86 thousand teams have participated in SIH 2024 at the institute level and around 49 thousand student teams (each consisting of 6 students and two mentors) have been recommended by these institutes for the national level round.
The event, organized at Shivanand Ashram in Ahmedabad on December 11 and 12, will be supported by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and the Ministry of Education. This program will be inaugurated virtually by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. SIH is a national initiative that provides a platform to students to solve real-world problems, foster innovation and a problem-solving mindset.
Areas such as lunar exploration, satellite communications, geospatial mapping and artificial intelligence will be discussed in the seventh edition of the hackathon.
