Parbhani (Maharashtra), December 11 (IANS). Police have detained 40 people after violence broke out during a protest against the insult to the Constitution in Parbhani, Maharashtra on Wednesday.
On December 11, protesters set fire to several areas and pelted stones at several places. Police also released tear gas shells to control the situation. The rioters also broke CCTV cameras at many places. Now the police took action and detained 40 people.
Sources said that these people have been identified on the basis of mobile video of the incident and CCTV camera footage surfaced on social media.
SRPF, riot control police and Rapid Action Force have been deployed to maintain peace in the area. Patrolling is being done in every area.
An uncontrollable crowd entered the collector’s office in Parbhani on Wednesday. The Collector’s building has been vandalized, the video of which is going viral on social media.
Parbhani Collector Raghunath Gawde said that after the incident of insult to the Constitution on Tuesday, he himself went to the spot. Despite this, some organizations protested today.
There is a statue of Baba Saheb Ambedkar in front of the collector office in Parbhani city. The Constitution and a copy of the Constitution are kept in front of this statue. On Tuesday evening someone broke the copy of the Constitution. This angered Ambedkar’s followers. After this the agitation started in Parbhani till late night. A bandh was announced in the city on Wednesday. The protests took a violent turn during the bandh.
The protesters also staged road blockades and rail blockades. As a precaution, internet service has been stopped in the city. Also, Section 163 of BNSS has been implemented.
