Sambhal, 29 November (IANS). A heavy police force has been deployed around the Shahi Jama Masjid in Sambhal. The situation is normal and people are seen strolling on the streets. Schools are open but internet service is closed.
Additional police forces were deployed around Jama Masjid and outside the gate late in the night. Police personnel are visible at every intersection around Sambhal police station. There is Friday prayer today and the survey report will also be presented in the court. In such a situation, the police is on high alert.
Police have identified more than 100 accused on the basis of mobile CCTV footage and videos obtained from drone cameras, out of which 31 accused have been arrested so far.
The police is keeping a special watch on every person coming and going at sensitive places. The police is taking immediate action if any suspicious activity is seen. There is a clear instruction from the government that if any suspicious situation is seen anywhere, immediate action should be taken.
The Yogi government of Uttar Pradesh has ordered a judicial inquiry into the recent violence in Sambhal. The order for formation of the committee was issued by the Home Department of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday. According to the order of the State Home Department, a three-member committee headed by retired High Court judge Devendra Kumar Arora has been entrusted with the responsibility of investigating the case. The two other members of the committee are retired IAS officer Amit Mohan Prasad and former IPS officer Arvind Kumar Jain. The committee will have to submit its report within two months.
A survey of the Shahi Jama Masjid of Sambhal was conducted on the morning of 24 November. Police say that during this time, unruly elements pelted stones at the survey team near the mosque. The atmosphere started deteriorating in no time. To control the situation, the police released tear gas shells and also warned the unruly elements. Many people also died during the violence.
